Viking opens bookings for largest-ever 2028-29 ocean season

Viking has opened bookings for its 2028-2029 ocean season, unveiling its largest ocean deployment to date with more than 700 new departure dates across 80 voyages.

The new season spans 301 ports in 84 countries across six continents and includes sailings aboard the cruise line's fleet of small ocean ships, including the upcoming Viking Vega and Viking Leda, which are scheduled to join the fleet in 2028 and 2029, respectively.

The deployment also expands Viking's global offerings with additional departures of its Japan Discovery itinerary and introduces two new itineraries: Alaskan Fjords & the Inside Passage and Mediterranean, Malta & North Africa.

"With our largest ocean deployment to date, we are pleased to offer guests even more opportunities to explore the world in Viking comfort," said Leah Talactac, president and CEO of Viking, in a press release.

"From new itineraries to our two newest ocean ships, this deployment reflects our continued commitment to providing destination-focused voyages for curious travellers."

The 2028-2029 program features voyages throughout the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Alaska, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, the Caribbean, South America and the Panama Canal.

Guests can choose from sailings ranging from eight-day cruises to extended World Voyages, with itineraries designed to be combined into longer travel experiences.

New Alaska & Mediterranean itineraries

Among the highlights is the new Alaskan Fjords & the Inside Passage, a 15-day voyage sailing between Vancouver and Whittier.

The itinerary explores Alaska's Inside Passage and fjords, offering opportunities to kayak through coves, hike wilderness trails and spot wildlife including eagles, bears and whales. Guests will also connect with Tlingit hosts to learn about the region's cultural heritage.

Also debuting is Mediterranean, Malta & North Africa, a 16-day roundtrip voyage from Rome.

The itinerary includes visits to Valletta, North Africa, Andalusia, Provence and Corsica, with stops highlighting historic landmarks such as the UNESCO-listed Alhambra Palace before returning to Rome.

Viking is also expanding departures of its recently introduced Japan Discovery itinerary, a 15-day roundtrip sailing from Tokyo that circumnavigates Japan and includes ports such as Niigata, Hakata (Fukuoka), Sapporo and Shimizu, along with an overnight stay in Tokyo.

Two new ships joining the fleet

The Viking Vega and Viking Leda will become the newest additions to Viking's ocean fleet upon delivery in 2028 and 2029.

Like the rest of the line's ocean vessels, both ships will be classified as small ships, measuring 54,300 gross tons and accommodating 998 guests in 499 all-veranda staterooms. They will feature Scandinavian-inspired design, light-filled public spaces and multiple al fresco dining venues.

Anniversary sale underway

To mark the launch, Viking is offering its Anniversary Sale through Aug. 31, 2026.

The promotion includes reduced fares, up to free international airfare on select all-inclusive river, ocean and expedition itineraries for North American travellers, and a $25 deposit on all itineraries. Guests can book through Viking or a travel advisor.
