Tauck partners with Ken Burns to add trips to Vietnam

Tauck partners with Ken Burns to add trips to Vietnam

For the first time ever, Tauck and Ken Burns are collaborating on a series of itineraries for travel through Vietnam.

The Tauck itineraries to be added through the partnership are the 16 day “Indochina: Vietnam, Cambodia & Laos” and the 16-day “Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand” tours, and both will be launched in 2018. Both journeys through Vietnam will feature a series of film shorts called "Stories by Ken Burns", which are roughly 10-15 minutes long. Exclusive to Tauck, these mini-documentaries will be viewed by guests as they trek through Vietnam, giving them the insights and perspectives of Burns, Novick, and Botstein. The two itineraries will compliment the pair's 18-hour documentary series, "The Vietnam War" which will air on PBS this September.

Novick has ben creating and producing award-winning documentaries for almost 30 years, and has collaborated with Burns many times in the past, focusing on aspects of American history and culture. Botsteain has been working with both Burns and Novick for a number of years, including contributions to the making of "The Vietnam War". The documentary itself will showcase raw Vietnam War-era footage and photo stills that have been pulled from the National Archives.

Tauck's vignettes on Vietnam will explore how the cultural and political divides that were exposed by the Vietnam War continue to affect American society today. They will also examine how media landscapes of the 1960's and 1970's changed rapidly in the face of conflict, while examining the origins and consequences of the powerful mythologies that surrounded the Vietnam War.

Tauck has already produced more than 130 vignettes, represented on nearly two dozen Tauck tours across the U.S, and plans to run between eight and 10 for the Southeast Asia tours.

The "Indochina: Vietnam, Cambodia & Laos” and the “Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand” tours are part of a new collection of 28 journeys that are part of Tauck's 2018 "Exotics" collection. The series features 28 new destinations through Asia, Africa, Latin America and Australia/New Zealand and features travel by cruise ships, safaris, family packages, and independent travel in order to bring the natural wonders of the world into focus.
