Swan Hellenic posts record July as polar expedition demand soars
SH Minerva. (Swan Hellenic)

Swan Hellenic is reporting its strongest operational month on record, fuelled by surging demand for polar expeditions and a growing number of repeat guests.

The expedition cruise line said July revenue climbed 170 per cent year over year, while total year-to-date growth reached 268 per cent. Early August figures indicate that the momentum is continuing, the company said.

Swan Hellenic's core polar portfolio accounted for two-thirds of its total growth, with Arctic revenue tripling compared with the same period last year. Arctic guest volumes, meanwhile, more than doubled, rising 125 per cent.

Growth is also coming from beyond the polar regions.

The company's new Asia-Pacific itineraries recorded a 373 per cent year-over-year increase, while its latest Africa itineraries have generated growth of 98 per cent.

Demand rises across global markets

Swan Hellenic said Australia, Asia, Europe, the United Kingdom and North America all recorded multiple triple-digit growth.

The company also pointed to rising guest loyalty as a driver of its performance. The share of repeat guests has more than doubled over the past two years, with a large number of travellers having now completed three or more Swan Hellenic expeditions.

Guest satisfaction remains high, with Swan Hellenic reporting a Cruise Critic rating of 4.7, which the company says puts it ahead of its key competitors.

Looking ahead, Swan Hellenic said its upcoming Antarctica season is currently pacing 32 per cent ahead of last year's performance.

“Our team is very proud of these exceptional results,” said Swan Hellenic Chief Commercial Officer Mario Bounas in a press release. “They’re a ringing endorsement of the outstanding discovery experiences Swan Hellenic provides.”

“From our high-end ships to the gourmet cuisine, service and off-the-beaten path itineraries and expeditions our dedicated staff, expedition teams and onboard experts deliver. At the same time, we wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of our wonderfully enthusiastic and insightful trade partners. We’d like to thank them all.”
