Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas begins inaugural season in Europe

Royal Caribbean has officially launched its newest Icon Class ship, Legend of the Seas, with the vessel embarking on its inaugural sailing from Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy, on July 4.

The new ship will spend its first summer season operating seven-night Western Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona and Rome (Civitavecia), offering guests a range of new dining, entertainment and accommodation experiences designed with families in mind.

Legend of the Seas becomes the latest addition to Royal Caribbean's Icon Class and introduces what the cruise line says is its most extensive dining lineup at sea, with 28 venues and experiences.

New additions

Among the new additions are the Hollywoodland Supper Club, an immersive dining venue inspired by the golden age of cinema, and Royal Railway – Legend Station, which takes diners on a culinary journey along the historic Silk Routes. The AquaDome Market food hall also returns with five food concepts, joined by a new juice and smoothie bar.

Entertainment is another major focus aboard the ship, with new productions spanning theatre, water, air and ice.

Highlights include the Royal Theatre debut of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the AquaTheater production Shockwave, and Fusion, a new ice show in Absolute Zero, billed as the largest ice arena at sea.

In August, the ship will also debut America's Got Talent LIVE on Legend of the Seas, a new stage production based on the global television franchise.

Adventure attractions include Category 6, described as the largest waterpark at sea with six waterslides, as well as the Crown's Edge attraction, which combines a skywalk and zip line experience suspended 154 feet above the ocean.

Guests will also find rock climbing, mini golf and multiple pool experiences, including the adults-only Hideaway, the Swim & Tonic swim-up bar and Royal Bay, the cruise line's largest pool at sea.

Accommodation options range from standard staterooms to the Suite Neighbourhood and a redesigned three-storey Ultimate Family Townhouse featuring its own slide, dedicated entertainment spaces and room for larger families.

Following its Mediterranean debut, Legend of the Seas will reposition to Fort Lauderdale in November to begin six-night Western Caribbean and eight-night Southern Caribbean sailings. 

The itineraries will include calls at destinations such as Aruba, Curaçao and Royal Caribbean's private destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
