Regent to reduce capacity, expand suites in Explorer Class overhaul

Regent Seven Seas Cruises is planning a significant transformation of three of its luxury ships, reducing passenger capacity while introducing larger suites and new accommodation categories.

The cruise line announced that Seven Seas Explorer, Seven Seas Splendor and Seven Seas Grandeur will undergo extensive dry dock renovations between 2027 and 2028.

As part of the project, each vessel will see its suite count reduced from 373 to 344, with 29 suites removed to create more spacious accommodations.

Regent said the changes are designed to deliver even more space and luxury for guests by expanding existing suite categories and introducing new premium options.

Among the biggest upgrades are the Veranda Suites, which will be enlarged by more than 100 square feet, making them what Regent says will be the largest entry-level suites in the cruise industry.

Once redesigned, the Veranda Suites will measure between 415 and 464 square feet, up from 307 square feet. Each will include walk-in closets, double vanities and larger private balconies.

The refurbishment will also bring the new Horizon Penthouse Suites to the Explorer-Class fleet after their debut aboard Seven Seas Prestige, Regent's newest ship.

Ranging from 616 to 722 square feet, the Horizon Penthouse Suites will feature oversized balconies, spacious living areas and full bathrooms.

In addition, each ship will receive three new Distinctive Suites measuring between 821 and 918 square feet. Named the Explorer Suite, Splendor Suite and Grandeur Suite on their respective vessels, the accommodations will include king-size Elite Slumber Beds, separate sitting and dining areas, one-and-a-half marble-and-stone bathrooms, and large private balconies.

Guests staying in the suites will also receive a range of premium amenities, including fresh orchid arrangements, cashmere blankets, in-suite caviar service, a choice of pillows and the services of a personal butler.

By reducing suite inventory, expanding accommodations and introducing new suite categories, we are creating an even more spacious experience at sea while strengthening the exceptional service that defines Regent," said Wesley D'Silva, president of Regent Seven Seas Cruises, in a statement. 

The refurbishment program begins with Seven Seas Splendor, which is scheduled to enter dry dock in November 2027. 

Seven Seas Explorer will follow in April 2028, with Seven Seas Grandeur completing the program during a scheduled dry dock in October 2028.
