RCI's Perfect Day Island Collection to debut in Bahamas

New details of Royal Caribbean International’s series of private islands, the Perfect Day Island Collection, have been released – with Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas set to launch the collection.

The new Perfect Day at CocoCay is expected to be fully completed in fall 2019, but it will roll out in phases before that: the pier is scheduled for completion in Sept. 2018, with the majority of the island to launch the following spring. The island’s exclusive Coco Beach Club is the final experience scheduled for completion, and is set to open in Nov. 2019.

In a press release, RCI emphasized Perfect Day at CocoCay’s ‘perfect combination of thrills and chills for everyone.’ The island’s Thrill Waterpark will feature the most slides of any Caribbean waterpark (13) in addition to the Caribbean’s largest wave pool and the tallest waterslide in North America – the 135-foot Daredevil’s Peak.

The island’s Oasis Lagoon is set to house the Caribbean’s largest freshwater pool, with a kid-friendly beach entry, swim-up bar and three mini swim-up islands; guests can also take in the island from above thanks to its helium balloon experience, Up, Up and Away. More relaxed fare will also be offered by the appropriately-named Chill Island, which includes the Chill Grill dining venue as well as boat tours, snorkelling and cabanas and daybeds.

The Coco Beach Club, meanwhile, will offer the first (and so far, the only) overwater cabanas in the Bahamas, with its overall atmosphere set to reflect ‘an upscale take on the island’s authentic Caribbean vibe.’ This will include a freshwater infinity edge pool and bar and exclusive dining venue.

RCI’s president and CEO, Michael Bayley, said that the development of the island collection reflected the company’s commitment to its offerings beyond its ship collection. “It’s not just about the hardware,” he said. “It’s true that our new ships are technological and engineering marvels in their own right, and offer a multitude of unexpected experiences. Our destinations are an equally important part of the cruise vacation.

“We are introducing Perfect Day Island Collection to ensure that we deliver the most memorable vacation for adventure seekers on land, as well as on board our ships.”

Bayley acknowledged that the company had a lot to live up to with its choice of name for the collection, but was confident that it would be a game-changer. “When you name a place Perfect Day, you’re making a big, bold claim, but it’s one we’re going to deliver on. Once Perfect Day at CocoCay is complete, it will be unlike anything else in the world.”
