Oceania Cruises has introduced a new wine bar
New and exciting things are happening onboard Oceania Cruises, but agents will have to wait until Aug. 13 for the big reveal.
In the meantime, PAX spoke with Nikki Upshaw, senior vice present, sales, Oceania Cruises, to get an update on everything from the new Tropics and Exotics collections, to a recent wine program.

New 2019-2020 Tropics and Exotics Collection
Launched in Apr. 2018, the Tropics and Exotics collection features a total of 76 itineraries to destinations in Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Mexico, South America, the South Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand. Voyages range in length from seven to 31 days with opportunities to craft extended journeys of up to 67 days.

“It’s already selling quite well, and overall, we’ve enjoyed fabulous support from our travel partners and our Canada marketplace for all of our itineraries,” Upshaw said. “The European seasons are selling the best, especially in the Baltics and through Northern Europe. Anything in Iceland and Greenland tends to book immediately, and our Caribbean itineraries, especially Cuba, are doing very well."
Canadian Resident Savings Specials
Oceania Cruises is offering Canadian residents savings of 10 per cent. A new portfolio was introduced on July 1 to provide extra value, and to highlight the key areas of focus, which, as Upshaw added, often tends to be escaping the cold, Canadian winters.
Oceania is highlighting its Caribbean cruises, which feature a scope of Caribbean sailings beginning Nov. 2018, and running through until the spring of 2019.
“We go to ports of call that are a bit less-travelled from the traditional Caribbean ports,” Upshaw explained. “We like going into unique ports, like Aruba, Grenada, Barbados, St. Lucia, or St. Kitts. We also stay longer in port, which has been one of Oceania’s hallmarks. That means you can dine on board, and also go off the ship for an evening stroll. We feel that extends your experience beyond travelling as a tourist, to more of an immersive experience as more of a local.”
A culinary upgrade
According to Upshaw, two major enhancements have recently happened onboard the Oceania fleet.
At least once or twice per week, The Terrace Café, an al fresco dining experience, now includes culinary offerings that are linked to the destination, whether that's a specialty pasta dish from Italy, or fresh seafood from the Caribbean coast.

Additionally, on the Riviera and the Marina (two 1,250-guest sister ships), a brand-new wine bar concept is rolling out, and guests can enjoy light tapas-inspired plates and wine flights from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Reservations are not currently required.
Oceania also has the first culinary class at sea, available on the Riviera and the Marina. There are 12 stations for 24 people, and a series of courses that guests can take part in, alongside the chef.
