Norwegian unveils first look at Great Tides Waterpark ahead of Sept. 4 opening

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has unveiled a first look at Great Tides Waterpark, its new attraction at Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas, ahead of its grand opening on Sept. 4, 2026.

Spanning nearly six acres, the new waterpark is the largest the cruise line has developed and forms part of ongoing enhancements to its 270-acre private island destination.

Guests will find 19 waterslides, new dining venues, bars, cabanas and family-friendly attractions designed to appeal to travellers of all ages.

Among the headline features are The Wandering River, which includes what NCL describes as the cruise industry's first immersive tunnel experience; The Great Slide, billed as the Caribbean's only four-person body slide; and Cliffside Cove, home to the industry's first cliff jumps and the Caribbean's tallest cliff-jumping attraction.

Other highlights include Splash Cay, a family splash zone, and Tidal Tower, featuring the Breakwater Blasters, which NCL says are the Caribbean's first duelling Master Blaster water coasters that propel riders uphill using high-pressure water jets.

The opening also coincides with the completion of Great Stirrup Cay's new two-berth pier, allowing ships to dock directly at the island and giving guests more time ashore.

In addition to the attractions, Great Tides Waterpark will introduce several new dining concepts. Low Tide Smoke will serve barbecue favourites, while Catch of the Cay will specialize in seafood offerings.

Tidal Treats will feature desserts, including bubble waffle sundaes and fish-shaped waffle cones filled with soft serve. Complimentary buffet-style dining will also be available throughout the waterpark.

Guests will also have access to two new bars. The Grotto Bar overlooks Cliffside Cove's cliff-jumping area, while the Floataway Bar is located within The Wandering River, allowing guests to enjoy drinks without leaving the water. Beverages are included for guests with NCL's Free at Sea unlimited beverage package.

"With just one month until the grand opening of Great Tides Waterpark, we're excited to give guests a first look at what will become one of the Caribbean's most dynamic destination experiences that can only be enjoyed when sailing with us," said Marc Kazlauskas, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, in a statement.

"From adrenaline-pumping attractions and family-friendly activities to unique dining experiences and places to relax, Great Tides Waterpark will showcase the innovative design, scale and adventure that await guests visiting the island.”

Beyond the waterpark

Beyond the waterpark, guests can book private cabanas accommodating up to six people, which include waterpark admission, or purchase passes to the adults-only Vibe Shore Club, featuring premium loungers and a private bar.

Additional poolside and beachfront cabanas are also available across the island.

For travellers seeking a more exclusive experience, NCL's existing Silver Cove retreat continues to offer a private beach, air-conditioned villas, a dedicated restaurant, an infinity pool overlooking the ocean and spa facilities.

Guests hoping to attend the official opening celebrations on Sept. 4 can book Norwegian Luna's Aug. 29, 2026, seven-day Caribbean sailing.

Day passes for Great Tides Waterpark are now available for sailings visiting Great Stirrup Cay beginning in September.
