NCL news: Norwegian Getaway upgraded; Transat to offer open bar on Norwegian Epic

The Norwegian Getaway has completed its first sailing after the ship’s extensive refurbishment as part of The Norwegian Edge program to enhance the existing fleet.

Following a two-week dry dock in Brest, France in late May, Norwegian Getaway returned to Copenhagen, Denmark after completing her first sailing showcasing new venues and artwork, updated social spaces and refreshed accommodations and décor. The renovations were completed just in time for a summer of Scandinavia, Russia and Baltic cruising.

New outlets aboard Norwegian Getaway include the company’s first on-board, full-service Starbucks licensed store available in the European market, and the popular rock ‘n’ roll-themed entertainment venue, Syd Norman’s Pour House, which debuted on Norwegian Breakaway in 2018.

Norwegian Getaway will complete her Scandinavia, Russia and Baltic cruising in late October 2019. She will then return to North America to homeport for the first time in New Orleans for a winter and spring of Western Caribbean cruising in November 2019 with routine calls to Norwegian’s premier island destination in Belize, Harvest Caye. In 2020, Norwegian Getaway will return to Europe to sail the Mediterranean for the first time while homeporting in Rome (Civitavecchia) for a summer of cruising Italy and the Greek Isles.

Pearl homeports in Amsterdam

Norwegian Cruise Line is also celebrating its first season of cruises from Amsterdam with the European debut of Norwegian Pearl, growing the brand’s presence to six ships in the region for the first time.

On Saturday (June 8), Norwegian Pearl’s Captain, Paul von Knorring, and the ship’s officers were honoured with a plaque and key to the city of Amsterdam from local officials from the Port of Amsterdam, Amsterdam Cruise Port and Passenger Terminal Amsterdam, as part of the maritime tradition.

On 11 May, the 2,400-passenger Norwegian Pearl embarked on her first summer season in Europe, where she became the largest ship to sail on the Thames River at Tilbury in Essex, England. She will cruise the North and Baltic Seas until end of June, before repositioning to Rome (Civitavecchia) for a season of varied Mediterranean voyages.

During her first season in Europe, Norwegian Pearl will sail 10-14-day cruises to the Greek Isles; the Mediterranean; and the French, Spanish and Italian Riviera’s from Amsterdam, Netherlands; Barcelona, Spain; and Venice and Rome Italy through 14 October.

Transat’s open bar aboard Norwegian Epic

Transat is inviting cruising enthusiasts to sail in the Western Mediterranean Sea from Barcelona and benefit from the free open bar offer aboard the Norwegian Epic.

Packages include round-trip flights with Air Transat, transfers, the cruise and a 28 kg baggage allowance.

Trips can be extended with a hotel stay up to 14 days before or after the cruise at no additional cost for the flight change.

This promotion is valid for cruises departures of June 16 and 23, 2019.
