Four new ships coming to Disney Cruise Line fleet between 2027 & 2031
Disney Cruise Line is charting an ambitious future, revealing Saturday (Aug. 10) that four new ships will join its magical fleet.
The news was shared by Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase over the weekend.
Five ships are currently in Disney’s fleet, with four others already in the works. The four additional ships will arrive between 2027 and 2031.
The new vessels will bring Disney Cruise Line’s fleet to a total of 13. The ship’s names, designs, and itineraries are still in development, according to a post on Disney Parks Blog.
Faith, trust & cruise ships
The ships come in addition to a line-up of new vessels already on the way. These include Disney Treasure, launching this December, and the Disney Adventure and Disney Destiny, which set sail next year.
Disney has also partnered with Oriental Land Company, which owns Tokyo Disney Resort, on a new OLC-owned ship inspired by the Disney Wish.
D’Amaro also shared that the signature production aboard the new Disney Destiny will be “Disney Hercules,” featuring the music and characters from the classic Walt Disney Animation Studios film.
Meanwhile, the new Disney Treasure is where guests will see the brand-new stage production, “Disney The Tale of Moana.” This show will include a giant puppet on stage.
Demand is “very, very high"
"At Disney Experiences, Imagineers dream, create, design and build these stories into real places. And we have Imagineers in place right now all around the world because everything we’re going to share with you is in active development. Plans are drawn. Dirt is moving. I just want to be clear about this: We are doing everything you’re going to hear tonight, “ D’Amaro stated in a press release.
In an interview with USA Today, D’Amaro said the demand for Disney’s exisiting cruise fleet is “very, very high.”
“So we know there's a big opportunity here to invest aggressively in incremental cruise ships,” he said.
“We know that when guests get on one of our ships, 40, 50 per cent of them are saying the only reason I'm cruising today is because Disney is here, so we've essentially created this space.”
“We also know that those guests are having exceptional experiences with us. They rate us very, very highly, and they tend to want to come back.”
Citing Disney Adventure, which will be Disney’s first ship to sail Southeast Asia, he noted: “Now we're going to have a fleet that can go meet our fans, where they are and tell all these amazing stories that we have.”
In June, Disney Cruise Line welcomed passengers for the first time to Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, the newest destination on the island of Eleuthera, The Bahamas.
