Emerald celebrates float-out of new Seine ship ahead of 2027 debut

Emerald Cruises & Tours has marked a construction milestone for its newest river vessel, Emerald Lumi, with the ship entering the water for the first time during a ceremonial float-out at a shipyard in Romania.

The float-out marks another step toward the Emerald Star-Ship's inaugural season on France's Seine River, where it is scheduled to begin sailing in March 2027.

Designed specifically for the Seine, the 110-metre ship will accommodate up to 130 guests, enabling it to sail into the heart of Paris and Honfleur, destinations the company says few other river ships can reach.

On board, Emerald Lumi promises contemporary interiors, spacious staterooms and suites with all-weather balconies, Reflections Restaurant, the Horizon Bar & Lounge, a heated indoor pool that transforms into an evening cinema, and a self-service laundry.

“Emerald Lumi’s water launch is an exciting step in bringing a fresh style of river cruising to the Seine. By combining extended overnight stays in key ports with curated local history and culinary experiences, plus a choice of dynamic EmeraldACTIVE excursions, this new itinerary offers a more immersive, unhurried way to explore northern France than many traditional river itineraries,” said Elisabeth Sadler, VP of product, river cruises at Scenic Group.

Coming March 2027

Beginning in March 2027, Emerald Lumi will sail the new eight-day Sensations of the Seine & Normandy itinerary, operating round-trip voyages from Paris to Honfleur. The itinerary includes overnight stays and later departures in destinations such as Honfleur and La Roche-Guyon, giving guests additional time to explore ashore.

Each sailing includes guided excursions highlighting the character of each destination, along with EmeraldACTIVE experiences such as guided e-bike rides, hikes and kayaking. Guests will also visit Claude Monet's home and gardens in Giverny, tour the Normandy D-Day landing sites, and enjoy culinary experiences including a walking tour of Honfleur with fresh oyster tasting.

The itinerary also features EmeraldPLUS experiences, including an onboard World War II lecture and an exclusive visit to a traditional Normandy cider farm with tastings of locally produced ciders and regional specialties.

On the Aug. 7, 2027 departure, Emerald Cruises will once again partner with Canadian father-and-son chefs Michael and Oscar Bonacini for a culinary-themed sailing. The voyage will include an exclusive onboard dinner curated by the Bonacinis, as well as a dining experience at La Couronne, France's oldest restaurant, where Julia Child famously described enjoying "the most exciting meal of my life."

Emerald Lumi is the latest addition to Scenic Group's growing fleet. The company said the ship is being built under the direction of its team at MKM Yachts as part of its continued investment in both its river cruise and yacht brands.

The expansion also includes the recent launches of Emerald Kaia and Emerald Astra, while new superyachts Emerald Raiya and Emerald Xara are scheduled to debut in 2027 and 2028, respectively. Sister brand Scenic is also planning to introduce Scenic Ikon in 2028, along with new river ships on India's Hooghly River in 2027 and the Mekong in 2028.
