Celebrity cancels 2022-23 Asia season due to “ongoing uncertainty”
Celebrity Cruises has cancelled its 2022-2023 Asia season on board Celebrity Solstice due to "uncertain" travel conditions in the region.
The winter sailings – 18 cruises total – were supposed to run from September 2022 to April 2023.
One of the impacted sailings included a 15-night voyage from Vancouver to Yokohama, Japan, that was set to embark on Sept. 16, 2022.
“We have made the difficult decision to cancel our Asia season due to the ongoing uncertainty around when international operations might fully restart in this region,” Celebrity said in a statement.
“Our guests have the option to apply their current booking to select Asia sailings in our 2023-24 season, or they may choose a full refund. We thank our guests for their patience and understanding as the world continues to reopen and we continue to work through unique circumstances.”
Guests impacted by the cancellations may apply their current booking to select Asia sailings in 2023-2024 or opt for a full refund.
Reports say the cancellation has resulted in deployment changes, as Celebrity Solstice will sail to the Mexican Riviera to replace Celebrity Millennium.
Those seven-night sailings are set to sail from Los Angeles from Sept. 24 to Dec. 11, 2022. Millennium will sail to the Caribbean, although isn't yet clear where, according to reports.
Celebrity isn’t the only brand to cut sailings in Asia.
Last month, Princess Cruises cancelled Sapphire Princess sailings in Asia and Australia departing through October 2022.
Princess also cancelled Japan voyages on Diamond Princess through June 9, 2022, and Diamond Princess cruises in Japan and Singapore departing through March 3, 2023.
