Carnival to discontinue Fathom line
Fathom, Carnival’s social impact line, will be discontinued as of June 2017, a little more than a year after the concept began its first sailings to Cuba.
According to reports, the 704-passenger Carnival Adonia will continue its scheduled sailings through May, after which the ship will be returned to service in the U.K. with Carnival’s P&O Cruises.
While the current incarnation of Fathom will cease operations next summer, Carnival has stated that the concept of social impact travel will be retained and transformed from a single-ship line to a broader approach across the line’s multiple brands.
The Fathom concept was announced in June 2015 and began sailing in May this year, the first U.S. cruise to sail to Cuba in the wake of eased relations between the two countries.
