HX (formally Hurtigruten Expeditions) is kicking off 2024 with four key appointments in the Americas. 

The new hires come as part an "ongoing effort to expand HX's presence and growth in the market and forge stronger relationships with the travel trade, "ensuring partners have all the support they need" as HX enters the next stage of its rebrand, the company said in a press release. 

The news comes amid the announcement that Alex Delamere-White will transition from interim chief commercial officer (CCO) to that of permanent CCO.

Many of the new hires are based in Canada

Carla Brake is now HX's senior sales director. Brake was previously senior director of business development for the Globus family of brands and Avalon Waterways, as well as vice-president of sales at Insight Vacations. She brings more than two decades of industry experience. Her new email is 

In Western Canada, Kent Phillips is now a BDM for the region. He brings seven years of experience as a senior BDM at Exodus Adventure Travels, specializing in active adventure travel and polar expeditions. He is also a global adventurer with over two decades of experience and has traveled to over 65 countries. He can be reached at

Ian Kivell, meanwhile, is now a BDM for HX in Eastern Canada. He previously served as a travel manager at Flight Centre and a sales and BDM at Contiki. Based in Hamilton, ON, he is also a Professor of Tourism at Mohawk College. His email is

In the U.S., Jennifer Kennedy is now HX's BDM for the Southeast U.S, while Glenn Eastwood (BDM, Northeast U.S.), Michael Weldon (director, sales and national accounts), and Julia Swenda (director of host accounts) remain integral members of HXs Americas team.

Ian, Carla, Kent and Jennifer will play an integral role in equipping our valued agents and advisors with the support they need to thrive in the growing expedition cruise industry and promote HX," stated Sheralyn Berry, general manager for HX in the Americas. 

The updates come on the heels of Kristin Erz stepping down from her role as sales director, Canada and national accounts, Americas at HX. 

"This may come as a surprise to some, but after five years, it’s time for me to hang up my Helly Hansen jacket at Hurtigruten," Erz wrote in a post to social media on Dec. 21. "I can confidently and proudly say that I brought this brand to life in Canada — connecting the Hurtigruten experience and company values for sustainability with our trade partners and mutual clients. The announcements also coincide with the next phase of Hurtigruten Expeditions' rebrand to HX and kicks off Wave season.
