Blue Cross has resumed selling travel insurance for cruises to Canadians

Although the government's warning to avoid cruise travel until further notice remains in effect, Blue Cross has resumed selling travel insurance for cruises in the Canadian market. 

“As cruise travel has resumed in several regions of the world, we are pleased to reopen sales of insurance contracts for these trips as of July 29, 2021,” said Joanne Parent, regional vice-president, business development, insurance Santé Québec and travel insurance, in a message to Blue Cross partners.

“We are convinced that this offer will greatly contribute to the resumption of sales of travel insurance contracts," Parent said. 

Caitlin Ferguson, a senior communications advisor at Blue Cross, confirmed the update with PAX in an email.

Parent specified that Blue Cross is monitoring the situation closely. 

“The health and safety of our customers remains our priority,” she stated.

The backstory 

Remember that about a year ago (July 22, 2020), Blue Cross reopened travel insurance sales, after having suspended them for several months.

Despite the warning to "avoid non-essential travel outside Canada until further notice," which was in effect at the time - it is still in effect - the company explained that it wanted to protect customers from during their travels, while observing a gradual resumption of tourism activities.

On February 5, 2021, however, Blue Cross temporarily suspended sales of new travel insurance contracts to Mexico and the Caribbean, following the flight suspension agreed between the federal government and major carriers.

Then in May, noting that some airlines had resumed the sale of flights to and from Mexico and the Caribbean countries, Blue Cross resumed sales of travel insurance and extension contracts for all trips to these destinations. .

Again, Blue Cross explained that it wanted to "continue to support [its] clients and ensure their safety during a stay abroad," a statement said. 

Exclusive offer

In addition, we should mention that in the same message to partners announcing the resumption of sales for cruise travel, Blue Cross also announced an exclusive offer:

From July 29 to September 30, 2021, travellers aged 75 and under will be able to purchase the 17-Day or 31-Day Emergency Medical Annual for the cost of one-trip insurance.

"Thanks to this offer, your customers will be able to save on the cost of their insurance while taking advantage of the great flexibility that the Annual offers them to plan their trips," said Parent.
