Avalon adds Ganges river cruises

Avalon Waterways has added India’s Ganges river to its portfolio, with the 56-passenger Ganges Voyager joining the fleet.

The Voyager will be featured in a two-week itinerary that includes stays in deluxe hotels in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, with travellers boarding the vessel in Kolkata.

The six-night cruise will then travel to Kalna, Matiari, Murshidabad, Mayapur and Guptipara, before returning to Kolkata. Shore excursions along the way will include gold and silversmith workshops, a flower market, traditional sweet-making, a visit to Mother Theresa’s home, and tea in a local home.

“This is going to be a wonderful way to experience India,” commented Stéphanie Bishop, managing director for the Globus family of brands. “Carefully-planned shore excursions and sightseeing followed by the best of Indian and Western dining on board in the company of new friends. And there is nothing better than the leisurely pace of a river cruise, where the scenery simply glides by.”
