And the name of the first Virgin Voyages ship is…
Virgin Voyages has revealed the name of its first ship as the incoming cruise line prepares to set sail.
Dubbed Scarlet Lady, the first ship in the fleet will sail in 2020; the ship’s livery is based on those previously featured on the company’s Virgin Atlantic and Australia aircraft as well as the Virgin Galactic spaceline.
The Scarlet Lady remains under construction, as crews continue the build-out process in drydock. A second vessel is due for delivery in 2021, Virgin added.

Creating more leadership roles for women
In addition to announcing the name of its first ship, the company has also announced its Virgin Voyages Scarlet Squad Program, an initiative designed to create more leadership positions for women on the operations side of the cruise industry, including engineers, builders, marine tech, crew captains and technical positions. Virgin described the program as a “multi-pronged approach, supported by skill development, recruitment and mentoring.”
Virgin Voyages also announced that it will eliminate single-use plastics across a whole range of products, including plastic straws and stirrers. The line plans to provide passengers with reusable drink bottles, and will offer complimentary still and sparkling water throughout the ship.
