AmaWaterways has unveiled a first look at AmaMaya, its newest ship on the Mekong River, set to debut in January 2027 with sailings through Vietnam and Cambodia.

The 120-guest ship will operate AmaWaterways’ seven-night Charms of the Mekong and Riches of the Mekong itineraries.

AmaWaterways describes the design as a contemporary interpretation of Indochine heritage. AmaMaya will have 60 staterooms, the same number and accommodation types as sister ship AmaDara, while introducing a new design concept to the line's Mekong fleet.

Its interiors will incorporate subtle Indochine-inspired accents, with a design centred around movement and intended to reflect both the experience of sailing the Mekong and the journey of discovery through the region.

"The Mekong offers such a special way to discover Vietnam and Cambodia, bringing guests into close contact with the people and traditions of the region," said Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways, in a press release.

"With AmaMaya, we wanted to build on that connection by inviting guests onto a ship that is inspired by its surroundings and the rivers it sails. The ship is contemporary and refined, but you can feel the influence of Indochine throughout. It is a beautiful setting that complements the journey and creates a sense of discovery from the moment guests step on board."

Dining & wellness on board

According to the river cruise company, AmaMaya will offer two dining venues: the Mekong Restaurant, serving cuisine with international and local influences, and The Chef’s Table, an intimate specialty restaurant featuring a multi-course tasting menu.

Menus will showcase Southeast Asian flavours and fresh ingredients, with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other dietary requirements accommodated.

Wellness amenities will include a fitness room, sun deck pool and three massage rooms. A dedicated Wellness Host will lead fitness and mindfulness activities throughout each cruise.

Exploring Vietnam and Cambodia

On shore, AmaMaya’s itineraries will focus on the cultures, traditions and everyday life of communities in Vietnam and Cambodia.

Included experiences will range from walks through traditional villages and visits to local schools to silk-making and rattan workshops and local markets.

In Cambodia, guests can explore Phnom Penh by tuk-tuk, visit Oudong, the country’s former royal capital, and participate in a traditional Buddhist blessing ceremony.

In Vietnam, excursions will include a traditional trishaw ride through Tan Chau and visits to local craftsmen’s workshops. Guests can also explore the waterways, cajuput trees and birdlife of the Mekong Delta’s Tra Su Forest and Sanctuary by sampan.

Travellers sailing the Mekong itinerary can extend their trip with a three-night stay in Bangkok.

The Riches of the Mekong itinerary offers a choice between a three-night Bangkok extension or a four-night Central Vietnam extension.

AmaMaya begins sailing the Mekong in January 2027.
