New research from Expedia Group – which operates Expedia TAAP, a travel agent affiliate program – is sharing insights into travellers who have used a travel advisor in the past 18 months.

Expedia Group, in partnership with Wakefield Research, conducted a study titled Decoding The Travel Advisor Client. The survey results offer a deep dive into travellers’ preferences, values, and planning habits.

What are the top reasons why customers choose to use a travel advisor? Unsurprisingly, “expert advice” ranks first, with 53 per cent of respondents citing that reason.

Time savings, access to exclusive deals, personalized services and the ability to handle emergencies also rank high.

Canadian travellers are also more likely to book flight tickets through their travel advisor than the average global traveller. Consumers will also use a travel advisor to book hotels, tours and activities, the survey shows.

Exceptional customer service and strong communication are also primary reasons Canadian travellers remain loyal to their travel advisors, the report shows.

Additionally, 50 per cent of Canadians have stayed with the same travel advisor for five years—compared to 38 per cent globally.

Key takeaways for the trade?

“Make sure to provide compelling deals and special promotions to keep your Canadian clients loyal and attract new clients to your business,” the report says.

Additionally, building strong client relationships also relies on recognizing their needs, the report says.

“Familiarize yourself with how your clients prefer to stay connected and provide regular updates throughout the planning process. Share with clients how they can best reach you and respond in a timely manner.”
