WestJet shutting down WestJet Agent booking channel on Oct. 24

WestJet is decommissioning its booking channel WestJet Agent later this month, PAX has learned.

Calling the move a “difficult decision,” the airline says the channel will no longer be available as of Oct. 24, 2023, and that it is working on providing existing users “with a new booking option.”

The information was shared in a memo distributed by the IATA Agency Program on Tuesday evening (Oct. 10) that PAX has obtained.

More information on timelines and what agents can expect “will be shared as soon as possible,” WestJet wrote.

What now?

The memo goes on to share some details about next steps.  

Travel advisors requiring support with existing bookings that are scheduled to depart after WestJet Agent is decommissioned on Oct. 24 are being advised to contact WestJet's Travel Support Team at 1-877-664-3205.

Existing GDS users may continue to book WestJet in their preferred GDS, the airline said.

Non-accredited agencies, meanwhile, “may connect with your preferred consolidator to continue to book WestJet” as the airline works toward implementing a new booking option.

On commission

Accredited agencies may continue to book WestJet in their preferred GDS. “There will be no change to the contractual commission rates for accredited agencies,” WestJet wrote.

Non-accredited agencies that do not use a GDS may choose to book with a consolidator.  

“Your compensation will be determined by the agreement you come to with the consolidator,” WestJet said.  

Travel agent resource site content

The airline says that agencies may continue to see content about WestJet Agent on WestJet's travel agent resource site after it is decommissioned.

“This may include mentions on policy pages, the travel advisory page, etc. All content will be updated once the new booking option is implemented,” the company said.

WestJet is advising agencies to not reference content on the travel agent resource site if they require support with an existing WestJet Agent booking after Oct. 24.

“You may call WestJet's Travel Support Team at 1-877-664-3205 for assistance,” the airline said.

WestJet confirms

WestJet confirmed the news in a statement to PAX on Wednesday (Oct. 11). 

"WestJet remains committed to its agency partners and is actively working to provide travel agents with a new booking option," wrote airline spokesperson Julia Kaiser in an email. "More information on timelines and what partners can expect will be shared as soon as possible."
