Travelkore clarifies Baja California Sur tourist tax process
Travelkore is reminding travel advisors that they do not collect or process payments for Baja California Sur’s mandatory “Embrace It” tourist tax, issuing updated guidance on disclosure and transaction handling.
The tax, which applies to international visitors to the Mexican state, is paid separately and is not included in package prices or airfares.
In a notice to partners, the company said all tourist tax payments are processed through its regulated and authorized platform, with travellers completing payment directly through an authorized payment link.
Advisors and travel providers are instead expected to share or present an authorized payment link to clients, which transfers the transaction to Travelkore’s system.
“This distinction is critical for proper disclosure,” the company said, noting the difference between sending a payment link and paying on a client’s behalf using the same platform.
Once payment is completed, the system generates an official QR code, transmits payment data to government records, and provides validation technology where required.
Travelkore also handles customer support related to payment or tax questions, according to the notice.
The company also said the tax is mandatory and must be disclosed clearly and prominently in documentation.
Travelkore said there is no cost to the travel industry to use its platform and that, when qualification requirements are met, it may authorize reimbursement for certain disclosure-related updates, including changes to systems, itineraries, invoices and customer communications.
Updated pricing for the tax, effective Jan. 1, 2026, is listed at CAD$39.97.
The clarification follows ongoing confusion around how the tax should be presented and processed.
