Travel advisor named fast-growing career as Nexion reports 20% jump in interest
Travel advisor is one of the fastest-growing careers in the U.S., according to LinkedIn Jobs on the Rise 2026 report, and Nexion Travel Group says it’s seeing the momentum firsthand.
The host travel agency, which supports independent travel advisors across North America, reported a 20 per cent increase over the last year in interest from people exploring the profession.
In the LinkedIn report, travel advisor ranks #18, reflecting growth over the past three years.
Nexion said many prospective advisors are coming from other fields — including former corporate professionals, educators and hospitality workers — looking for flexible, home-based businesses with autonomy and long-term opportunity.
“People are looking for careers that offer flexibility, purpose and growth, and travel advisor delivers on all three,” said Jackie Friedman, president of Nexion Travel Group.
“We’re seeing strong interest from career changers and entrepreneurs who want more control over their work while helping clients create meaningful travel experiences.”
Nexion also pointed to an example from its Canadian network: one of Nexion Canada’s Rising Stars awardees, Kevin Lapointe, who was selected by company leadership for early achievements.
“I have always been passionate about travel, particularly all-inclusive experiences in Mexico and the Caribbean. Over time, I became the go-to resource for family and friends seeking guidance on choosing the right resort. This naturally led me to pursue my interest more formally by becoming a travel advisor and turning it into a side business," Lapointe said.
"Since joining Nexion Canada, I've experienced great success, thanks to the comprehensive tools and resources provided by Nexion, combined with my dedication to helping others discover their ideal vacation."
Industry leaders attribute the timing to shifting traveller behaviour and workplace priorities: as travel becomes more complex and experience-driven, consumers value expert guidance and personalized service, while technology and host agency support have lowered barriers to entry for new advisors.
In a survey of Nexion advisors, 88 per cent said they would recommend a career as a travel advisor and 83 per cent said they are optimistic or very optimistic about the industry’s future.
“These are not the travel agents of decades past,” Friedman said.
“Modern travel advisors are trusted consultants and entrepreneurs, and host agencies like Nexion provide the foundation to succeed.”
