StatCan: Job vacancies for travel advisors dropped, wages dipped a little in Q4 2024

Statistics Canada has released new data about travel counsellor jobs for Q4 of 2024.

According to the agency, job vacancies for travel advisors have dropped significantly, down 37 per cent from last year. There were 475 vacancies in Q4 2023, and during last year’s fourth quarter, there was just 300.

Hourly wages have also dipped a little, decreasing by 3.5 per cent after inflation adjustments. Q4 of 2023 was $20.5, while Q4 of last year was $20.20.

Comparing everything to pre-pandemic numbers (Q4 of 2019), the changes are clearer, as ACTA’s Director of Advocacy and Industry Relations Avery Campbell noted on his LinkedIn page recently.

In 2019, there were 680 vacancies (which is more than double today’s number).

And after adjusting for inflation, wages from 2019 to 2024 went up 0.5 per cent, “in contrast to all occupations, which went up 9.8 per cent in the same period,” Campbell pointed out.
