Iran’s military threatens “parks, recreational areas & tourist destinations” worldwide
Iran’s senior military spokesperson said Friday (March 20) that “parks, recreational areas, and tourist destinations” around the world could become unsafe for Tehran’s enemies.
According to local reports, Gen. Abolfazl Shekarchi made the statement as Iran continues to face airstrikes from the United States and Israel.
The warning has raised fears that Iran could resume militant operations outside the Middle East as a way to apply pressure in the ongoing conflict.
Another official, Gen. Ali Mohammad Naeini of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, said in a state-run newspaper that the country is still producing missiles, despite Israeli claims that its manufacturing capabilities had been destroyed.
Iranian state TV later reported that Naeini was killed in an airstrike.
Meanwhile, the U.S. is increasing its military presence in the region, deploying three additional warships and about 2,500 Marines, according to an Associated Press source.
Other officials confirmed the deployments but did not disclose their destinations.
Due to limited information from Iran, the full extent of damage to its military, nuclear, and energy infrastructure remains unclear, as does the current leadership situation.
Rising fuel costs
The conflict is also impacting the global economy, disrupting oil supplies and driving up food and fuel costs worldwide.
Airlines have warned that rising jet fuel prices linked to the conflict could cost the industry hundreds of millions of dollars, potentially leading to higher ticket prices and fewer available routes.
Global aviation has already been affected, with widespread cancellations, delays, and rerouted flights as large portions of Middle Eastern airspace remain closed due to security concerns.
