In an update posted to X, formally known as Twitter, officials from India have revealed that the High Commission in Ottawa and the consulates-general in Toronto and Vancouver will resume processing select visa categories starting Oct. 26.
The Oct. 25 press release states that entry, business, medical, and conference visas would be among the services reinstated.
“Emergency situations will continue to be addressed by the High Commission and the Consulates General as it is being done currently,” the notice reads. “Further decisions, as appropriate, will be intimated based on continuing evaluation of the situation.”
As previously reported, India suspended its visa services for Canadians in September as relations between the two countries weaken amid claims of India’s involvement in a Sikh activist’s killing in British Colombia in June.
In 2021, 80,000 Canadian tourists visited India, making them the fourth-largest group, according to India's Bureau of Immigration.
Canada is also appealing for Indians, especially students. In 2022, nearly 300,000 Indians were pursuing education in Canada.
