How are Canada’s flight prices shifting? Dashboard reveals latest trends
KAYAK has launched an Airfare Trends Dashboard, offering Canada‑specific data on how flight prices are evolving week over week, and year over year, across both domestic and international routes.
Using real-time search data, the dashboard shows how travel has changed since early January and gives travellers a look at how factors like seasonality, fuel costs, and broader macro trends are impacting airfare.
The dashboard, which can be viewed here, updates its weekly trends every Tuesday.
Comparisons to 2025 to help contextualize current pricing levels and how they compare to the same time last year are also offered.
Users can also access a city-level view at how airfare varies across some of KAYAK’s popular domestic and international destinations and how each is evolving over time
Shifting airfares in Canada
What’s happening with airfare in Canada?
According to KAYAK’s data, the price of domestic flights is higher than last year.
“Despite coming down for two consecutive weeks in late March, airfare has begun trending upward again," the company says.
For example: the average domestic airfare on January 5 this year was $227. As of April 6, the average was $385, the dashboard shows.
International airfare trends, meanwhile, appear to be mimicking 2025.
“Prices this year are moving in line with last year’s week-over-week patterns since the beginning of March, pointing to familiar seasonal shifts in demand,” KAYAK says.
On January 5, the average international fare was $1,052, KAYAK’s data shows. As of April 6, it was $1,173.
The company also notes that many popular long‑haul and leisure destinations remain affordable.
“Airfares to hotspots such as Montego Bay, Paris, Punta Cana and Tokyo are currently lower than or on par with 2025 pricing,” the company says.
KAYAK has also updated its Trip Calculator with the latest gas prices and airfare data to help compare the cost of flying versus driving.
Rental car interest remains on par with last year, while prices month-over-month also remain fairly steady, increasing by $6 domestically and unchanged internationally.
“Airfare trends are evolving differently across routes, while some are getting more expensive, others are seeing prices decline,” said Kayla DeLoache, KAYAK’s travel trends expert, in a press release.
“For example, flights to destinations like Halifax, Nova Scotia and Paris, France are down as much as 10 per cent. Looking at how prices are changing week to week can help travellers make more informed decisions about when and where to travel.”
