Canadian tourist dies in the Dominican Republic: report
A Canadian tourist has died in the Dominican Republic, the country's civil defence agency has confirmed with CTV News.
According to the report, Dorian Christian MacDonald, 33, had been staying alone at a hotel in Puerto Plata on the country’s north coast.
Authorities say he was walking on a beach around 2 a.m. local time on Friday, June 20.
Approximately an hour later, a 911 call was made to report a missing person on the beach, according to Civil Defence, the government agency that supports local law enforcement and coordinates naval operations.
Responding to the call, police teams arrived at the scene and discovered the person's body in the water at 4:15 a.m., during high tide.
Global Affairs Canada (GAC) isn’t releasing any additional information at this time for privacy reasons. However, the agency told CTV that it has been in contact with local officials and is providing consular assistance to the family.
