Aruba introduces $20 sustainability fee for air travellers starting July 2024

Aruba has announced the implementation of a new $20 Sustainability Fee for visitors arriving by air to the island, effective from July 2024. This fee aims to support various sustainability initiatives geared towards enhancing environmental conservation and improving sustainability efforts across Aruba.
The Sustainability Fee will be collected through the existing online Embarkation & Disembarkation (ED) Card platform, which travelers use to complete entry requirements before arriving in Aruba. Visitors can conveniently pay the fee at edcardaruba.aw during the ED card process.
Notably, the following categories of travelers are exempt from paying the Sustainability Fee:
- Local residents of Aruba
- Children under 8 years of age
- Repeat visitors who have already paid the fee in the same calendar year
- Cruise ship passengers
- Aruban students studying at foreign educational institutions, provided they have been residents of Aruba within the past 8 years and can provide suitable documentation.
The introduction of this fee underscores Aruba's commitment to sustainable tourism practices and environmental stewardship. Funds collected from the Sustainability Fee will be allocated to initiatives aimed at preserving Aruba’s natural beauty, promoting renewable energy projects, and supporting local community sustainability efforts.
