Star Clippers names former Lindblad exec Leo Chang as new CEO
Star Clippers has appointed Leo Chang as its new chief executive officer, marking a leadership transition for the boutique tall ship cruise line as demand for small-ship and sustainable travel continues to grow.
Chang brings more than three decades of management experience to the role and will oversee the company's operations, growth initiatives, brand development and the expansion of Star Clippers' global market presence.
The appointment represents a new chapter for the company, which was founded in 1989 by passionate yachtsman Mikael Krafft.
Today, Star Clippers operates a fleet of three of the world's largest sailing ships in service: the four-masted Star Flyer and Star Clipper, along with its flagship, the five-masted Royal Clipper.

The cruise line has built its reputation on combining the romance of traditional sailing with the comforts of a modern mega-yacht.
"Leo has incredible passion for our unique and authentic style of travel. His deep understanding of small ship cruising operations and its expanding market opportunity, combined with his forward-thinking leadership style make him the ideal leader to continue the Star Clippers legacy,” said Krafft in a press release.
“Our travel advisor partners and loyal guests can look forward to a continued commitment to product excellence, impeccable service and operational innovation."
Chang joins Star Clippers from Lindblad Expeditions, where he served as chief business development officer, leading corporate development and strategic planning while overseeing expansions of the company's fleet and land-based adventure travel portfolio.
Earlier in his career, he served as chief financial officer at Frontida BioPharm, Inc. and held senior roles at Jefferies.
His appointment comes as interest in boutique, sustainable and off-the-beaten-path travel experiences continues to rise, positioning Star Clippers to capitalize on growing demand for intimate sailing vacations.
"Star Clippers is one of the most unique and differentiated travel companies in the world, offering an authentic tall ship experience that connects travellers deeply with the heritage of the sea," said Chang in a statement.
"I am incredibly honoured to lead this iconic and beloved company. As we look to the future, our mission will be to elevate our guest experience, broaden our global reach and continue innovating intimate, sustainable voyages that larger vessels simply cannot replicate, all while remaining completely steadfast to the timeless spirit of wind-driven sailing."
