HX appoints Kelvin Murray as director of expedition operations
HX Expeditions has named Kelvin Murray as its new Director, Expedition Operations.
In his new role, Murray will report directly to Chief Operations Officer Iain McNeill and join the company’s Operations Leadership Team (OLT).
He will work closely with both the Operations and Commercial teams to oversee and enhance the guest expedition experience.
"Kelvin is a world-class expedition leader and operational strategist with an instinct for people, place, and purpose," said McNeill.
"At this moment, 130 years into our history, Kelvin’s vision and experience will be instrumental in raising the bar for our guests and our expedition teams. He joins us with an impeccable record and a passion for excellence that matches HX’s legacy."
Murray brings decades of field leadership and expedition planning to the role.
He previously served as Head of Expeditions at EYOS Expeditions, where he led voyages across all seven continents. His past experience also includes working with Oceanwide Expeditions and Lindblad.
His résumé includes notable milestones such as helping guide the largest passenger ship to date through the Northwest Passage, producing the first live 4K broadcast from Antarctica and participating in record-setting deep-sea submersible missions.
Murray has held positions on AECO’s Executive Committee and various IAATO committees, and has worked with conservation groups and the British Antarctic Survey.
He also delivered a TEDx talk on “Expedition Resilience.”
"I’m thrilled to join HX and help build upon their successful and extensive expedition heritage,” said Murray. “These trips are as much about people as they are places, and I'm looking forward to working with the team to continue HX being a safe, sustainable, mindful and cool way to explore the world."
HX Expeditions, which traces its roots back 130 years, says the appointment comes at a time of renewed focus on its operational and guest experience strategy.
