Some things have a way of coming full circle. And for Marsha Mowers, this is one of them.

The Toronto-based communications pro – known to many travel advisors from her years as a reporter and editor in the travel trade media – is returning to the marketing and PR side of the business.

Effective June 1, she will step into the role of PR Manager at Reach Global Marketing, where she will support select accounts in the company's portfolio.

“This is definitely full circle,” wrote Mowers in an email to PAX.

Mowers began her travel industry career at Reach back in 2007 when she was hired to help launch the NYC Tourism office in Canada, and later, support the accounts for Arizona and Las Vegas.

She credits Charmaine Singh, president and CEO of Reach Global, for seeing her potential at a pivotal point in her career.

“I had just left the broadcasting industry and had extensive public relations experience, but I didn’t know the travel industry at all,” said Mowers. “[Charmaine] took a chance on me and taught me so much about every aspect of this industry, so it’s refreshing to reconnect with a company and team that played such an important role in my career.”

Mowers said “there must be something in the Reach water,” noting that she’s not the first one to return to the company over the last 19 years.

“For me, having the opportunity to return brings both familiarity and a fresh perspective, especially given how much the industry has evolved since my last time with the company,” she said. “In a way, it feels like coming home.”

“I’m a big ideas person”

In her new role, Mowers will lead PR initiatives designed to raise the profile of select destinations among consumers, travel advisors, media and trade partners.

Her responsibilities will also include organizing FAM trips, developing compelling story angles and strengthening relationships with travel media and partners.

“I’m a big ideas person and working on the destination marketing side of the industry allows me to put those ideas into action with campaigns that work for our clients,” said Mowers.

“It’s that creative energy with Reach Global that I’m most looking forward to. I thrive in a collaborative, creative environment, and Charmaine’s always open to new ideas, building them out and putting them into action to deliver solid ROI for our clients.”

Years spent in the trade media trenches – covering countless events and conferences, and interviewing travel advisors, suppliers and industry executives – gives her a distinct advantage.

“My time in trade media gives me a unique perspective because I’ve worked extensively on both sides of the industry, from editorial to marketing,” she said.

Another layer? Mowers just happens to be a TICO-licensed travel advisor with The Travel Agent Next Door, which brings practical, on-the-ground experience to the role.

“That combination allows me to understand not only what resonates with the trade media and travel advisors, but also the business and relationship-building side of the industry,” she said.

“At Reach Global, I’ll be able to bring that well-rounded perspective to our clients and help them connect more effectively with the Canadian travel trade.”
