AmaWaterways has named two new senior executives, tapping Virginia Suliman as chief technology officer and Michael “Kazem” Moghtader as chief people officer.

Suliman joins the river cruise line from Invitation Homes, where she served as chief information and digital officer and led a major digital transformation.

She also spent more than 20 years at Hilton, ultimately serving as senior vice president of global software engineering.

Suliman will lead its long-term technology strategy and digital evolution.

“I’m thrilled to return to travel and join AmaWaterways at such an exciting time of growth,” said Suliman.

“Technology and innovation help our team work smarter and allow our guests to enjoy every moment of their journey from start to finish. We will continue building on AmaWaterways’ strong digital foundation to enhance our technology capabilities, making our guests’ experiences even more seamless and unforgettable.”

Moghtader brings more than 20 years of experience leading HR strategy, talent development, and organizational transformation across hospitality, healthcare, retail and luxury brands.

Most recently, he served as chief people officer at Postcard Cabins (formerly Getaway).

His earlier roles include chief people officer at Conifer Health Solutions, vice president of human resources at Signet Jewelers, and leadership positions at JC Penney, Victoria’s Secret and Banana Republic.

At AmaWaterways, Moghtader will lead the evolution of the People team, with a focus on attracting and developing talent, enhancing the employee experience, and building systems and practices to support the company’s growth.

“AmaWaterways has built something truly special - not just for guests, but for the people behind the experience,” said Moghtader.

“As we continue to grow, my focus is on creating an environment where employees feel supported, connected, and proud of the role they play in delivering exceptional journeys. When people thrive, everything else follows.”

AmaWaterways said the appointments support its focus on delivering seamless guest experiences while supporting its global team of travel professionals.

“Virginia and Kazem bring incredible experience and vision to AmaWaterways,” said Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways.

“I am excited to see how their leadership will guide our investment in our teams and our technology to help us grow and continue to deliver the best possible guest experience on board and on shore.”
