WOW air coming to YYZ, YUL in 2016

Iceland's ultra low-cost carrier WOW air will introduce service to Europe via Iceland from Toronto and Montreal, beginning in May 2016.

Flights will depart Pearson and Pierre Elliott Trudeau airports and connect travellers (via Reykjavik) to European destinations including London, Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Dublin. Service from Montreal will begin on May 12, with the Toronto service commencing May 20.

According to WOW, prices from Canada to Iceland will start at $99, with connecting flights from Reykjavik to other European destinations starting from $149; both prices are one way, with tax included, WOW said.

Both services will operate year-round, with departures on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday; flights between Reykjavik and Canada will be operated using WOW air's fleet of new Airbus A321 Extended Range aircraft, while the airline's Airbus A320 aircraft will carry passengers between Reykjavik and other European destinations, according to a statement from WOW.

Originally launched in November 2011, WOW air currently connects travellers from twenty destinations across the U.S. and Europe with the Icelandic capital, most recently launching transatlantic services from Boston and Washington D.C. earlier this year.
