WestJet warns customers of online scammers
WestJet is alerting the public to watch out for online scammers posing as their customer service team.
In a post to its Facebook page on Monday (Jan. 26), the airline reminded customers that it will never ask for sensitive information via direct message or text.
“When in doubt, contact us through our official channels – look for the gold or blue checkmark next to our name,” WestJet wrote.
The airline is reminding the public to not engage with any accounts claiming to be WestJet customer service and to not post any personal information in the comments, including booking reference details, on its Facebook page.
“All communications from WestJet in comments and direct message will have a blue check mark next to our name. Please look out for it before engaging,” the airline wrote.
The company added that t will never initiate a private or direct message via its social channels requesting personal information, “but will request that you message us directly.”
Additionally: “We will never ask you for any credit card or personal information, other than your booking reference details, full name, email address, and flight details, to confirm access for security reasons, and ONLY after you've initiated a private message,” the airline wrote.
