Summer 2026: WestJet adds European destination in T.O & Halifax, introduces Medellin

WestJet has announced the first phase of its summer 2026 network schedule, adding five new seasonal international destinations from Toronto, three new transatlantic routes from Halifax and new domestic and Nordic connections from Western Canada.

The airline will launch its first South American non-stop service from Toronto to Medellín, Colombia, alongside new Toronto routes to Cardiff, Wales and Ponta Delgada in the Azores, Portugal. 

Jon Bridge, chief executive officer of Cardiff Airport, said the new Toronto-Cardiff service "marks a major step forward in expanding Wales' global connectivity, strengthening tourism, business and cultural links with Canada."

Sara Ramírez Restrepo, general manager of Airplan, the airport operator in Medellín, said the new route "underscores the importance of our region and the trust that international airlines are placing in Medellín as a key gateway to Colombia."

WestJet is also resuming service between Toronto and Glasgow, Scotland.

"Canada has long been a key inbound market for Scottish tourism, with strong family ties driving repeat visits and enabling travellers to spend time with loved ones," said Denise Hill, VisitScotland's head of business development and intermediary marketing. 

"We look forward to continuing our partnership with WestJet and inspiring even more visits across Scotland."

"Leveraging the extended range capability of our growing share of Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft, WestJet is pleased to deliver a suite of new global destinations that are uniquely suited to our leisure strategy in Eastern Canada," said Alexis von Hoensbroech, WestJet's chief executive officer.

The Toronto-Cardiff route will mark North America's only direct flight to Wales.

"We're thrilled to see WestJet expanding its international network from Toronto Pearson, including its first non-stop service to South America and the launch of North America's only direct flight to Wales," said Kurush Minocher, interim chief commercial officer at Toronto Pearson.

From Halifax, WestJet will add seasonal routes to Madrid and Lisbon, as well as Copenhagen and Detroit. 

The additions represent the most European destinations the airline has operated from Halifax.

"With shorter flight durations, competitive pricing and seamless access to key European destinations and cultural hubs, WestJet is proud to call Halifax the airline's Atlantic gateway to Europe," von Hoensbroech said.

WestJet will also connect Edmonton and Winnipeg to Reykjavik, Iceland. 

Two new domestic routes include Winnipeg-London, Ontario (three times weekly) and Vancouver-Penticton, B.C. (five days weekly), with the latter operated by WestJet Encore's De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft.

As part of the summer 2026 schedule, WestJet is extending select sun destination routes to operate year-round from Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Calgary and Winnipeg. 

Both WestJet Vacations and Sunwing Vacations will offer holiday packages on these routes throughout the year.

The remaining summer 2026 schedule will be announced early next year
