WestJet fined $70,000 for APPR violations
The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) has issued administrative monetary penalties totalling $70,000 against WestJet for violations related to Canada’s Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR).
According to a March 5 determination posted to the regulator’s website, WestJet committed 16 violations on February 16, 2025 by failing to provide passengers affected by a delay (and subsequent cancellation) with food and drink “in reasonable quantities.”
Flight WS3103 is named in the case, and the CTA’s decision accounts for the length of time passengers had to wait, the time of day and the location.
On or about that same date, WestJet also committed 19 additional violations by failing to provide passengers affected by the delay and cancellation of the same flight with hotel or comparable accommodations, as well as transportation to and from the accommodations and the airport, free of charge.
“Passengers were required to wait overnight for their original flight or for a flight reserved as part of alternate travel arrangements,” the CTA determined in its case.
WestJet has until April 7, 2026, to request reviews before the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada.
