Canadians heading to Antigua and Barbuda this summer will have another nonstop option from Toronto.

The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority says WestJet’s Wednesday service will return for July and August, adding to the airline’s year-round Sunday route from Toronto Pearson to VC Bird International Airport and complementing Air Canada’s non-stop Sunday flights from Toronto.

The destination is also positioning Antigua as a gateway for onward Caribbean travel, with connections to nearby islands.

Director of Tourism for Canada Tameka Wharton said the additional flight will allow visitors and diaspora alike to enjoy the destination's cultural activities during the summer.

"Antigua and Barbuda's calendar is full of relaxed, family-friendly events all year long, and this is especially true in the summer with our Antigua Carnival, the Urlings Seafood Festival, ANUCON, and CPL T20 Cricket," she said.

"Having a midweek flight gives visitors more flexibility for spontaneous summer getaways, like pink sand spotting in Barbuda, while also allowing travellers to take advantage of non-peak season rates. Visit to unpack your perfect Christmas in July."

The additional service comes as the destination highlights its summer events lineup.

Antigua Carnival, running from July 25 to August 4, features parades, music and cultural programming across the island.

The Urlings Seafood Festival follows on Aug. 9, showcasing local cuisine and community events in the seaside village of Urlings.

ANUCON, scheduled for Aug. 16, focuses on pop culture, gaming and cosplay, while Caribbean Premier League T20 Cricket matches will take place across August and September.

The Wednesday flight will operate once weekly in July and August.
