Viking crossing the Atlantic for 2016

Viking Ocean Cruises is coming to North America in 2016, with five new itineraries launching in September.

The North American itineraries will allow guests to sail the North Atlantic and visit original Norse settlement sites that date back more than 1,000 years, while Viking’s Caribbean itineraries will provide more time in port and unique experiences for travellers.

Itineraries in Viking’s North American program include:

  • the 15-day In the Wake of the Vikings, sailing Sept. 18 from Bergen to Montreal, traces the exploration of Leif Eriksson through the Shetland Islands and Faroe Islands, through Iceland and Greenland, followed by Newfoundland and Quebec.
  • the 13-day Eastern Seaboard Explorer, sailing Oct. 2 from Montreal to New York, explores the Atlantic shores of Canada and New England, travelling along the St. Lawrence through Quebec, PEI and Nova Scotia, followed by an overnight in before crossing the Cape Cod Canal en route to New York City.
  • the 15-day Eastern Seaboard to the West Indies, sailing Oct. 14 from New York to San Juan, travels along the Atlantic seaboard of the United States into the Caribbean, taking in cities such as Newport and Baltimore before heading to the Caribbean islands of Turks and Caicos, Antigua and St. Thomas.
  • the 11-day West Indies Explorer sailing from San Juan to San Juan, explores the colonial treasures of San Juan, Puerto Rico and the Lesser Antilles, including stops in Tortola, Antigua, St. Lucia and Barbados. Sailing dates including Oct. 28, Nov. 7, Dec. 17 and Dec. 27, 2016, as well as Jan. 6, Jan. 16, Jan. 26, Feb. 5 and Feb. 15, 2017.
  • the 18-day West Indies to Iberia, sailing Feb. 25, 2017 from San Juan to Barcelona, begins in the Caribbean including a call in the Dutch side of St. Martin, followed by a leisurely six-day trans-Atlantic crossing, exploring the Portuguese island of Madeira and visit the French-inflected Moroccan city of Casablanca before exploring Spain in Cádiz, Valencia and finally, Barcelona.
