Transat raises $35K for charity with Sun Auction
An online auction of vacation packages by Transat allowed travellers to get a deal on their next trip while raising money for a worthy cause.
During the inaugural Sun Auction, users were able to tweet bids for their next vacation using the hashtag #SunAuction, with 20 Sun vacation packages departing from Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal and Quebec City up for grabs. Users were invited to visit transatsunauction.ca on Cyber Monday and place their bids through Twitter. Each auction lasted just half an hour and happened in real time. On average, trips for two went for as low as $1,766.
In addition, $35,097 was raised in support of SOS Children’s Villages Canada, an organization that comes to the aid of 80,000 abandoned and orphaned children worldwide, said Transat.
According to Transat, the initiative attracted more than 82,000 unique visitors, generating more than six million potential impressions and nearly 47,300 bids during the 12-hour event.
