TransAsia flight crashes in Taipei, 19 killed

Nineteen passengers aboard a TransAsia flight were killed after the plane crashed into a river in Taiwan on Wednesday.

According to a report by the Associated Press, the aircraft was carrying 58 passengers (mostly from China) to the Kinmen islands when it crashed shortly after take-off in Taipei. Videos of the incident show the ATR-72 aircraft losing altitude and careening toward a highway, hitting the roadway and a vehicle during the plane’s descent. This marks the airline’s second ATR-72 crash in a year.

In addition to those killed, another 24 passengers are still unaccounted for.

A mayday call was issued shortly after take-off, however, a cause for the crash is yet to be determined.
