Swissport strike ends at YYZ

Striking workers at Toronto Pearson International Airport are expected to return to the job Wednesday (Oct. 18), after 63 per cent voted in favour of a new agreement reached earlier this month.

According to the Canadian Press, employees of Swissport represented by the Teamsters opted for the agreement which contains minor improvements on wages, benefits and scheduling. The 700 employees – which include ramp equipment operators, baggage handlers, cabin cleaners, and other ground crew workers – went on strike July 27.

Thirty airlines using Swissport’s services at Pearson were affected by the job action, including Air Transat, Sunwing Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Air France, KLM and Lufthansa.
