SkyGreece operations halted?
Rumours concerning SkyGreece Airlines’ future operations continue to circulate online, with an official statement yet to be made by the airline.
Multiple social media posts from travellers on Twitter (using the #skygreece hashtag), as well as in a Facebook group called 'SkyGreece Troubles,' are expressing frustration with recent cancellations and delays which have stranded dozens of passengers, with some users stating that the airline has ceased to operate.
Inquiries made by PAX to SkyGreece representatives in Canada and Greece have not been returned.
According to reports, the airline is soon expected to make a statement about its future.
As of Aug. 26, the airline’s official social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter were not available online, while a phone message greets callers to SkyGreece’s Toronto and Montreal offices with news that flights from Toronto have been cancelled due to "operational reasons."
On its Facebook page, The Embassy of Canada to Greece is advising SkyGreece passengers dealing with cancelled flights to contact their travel agents, credit card and travel insurance companies, along with a list of emergency contact numbers for stranded Canadians.
The airline, which launched service from Canada to Greece and other European destinations in May, has recently cancelled or delayed several flights. One flight from Toronto Pearson International Airport was delayed four days last week, which SkyGreece said was due to the late delivery of parts required for a repair.
