SkyGreece officially bankrupt

SkyGreece Airlines is officially bankrupt, more than two months after suddenly halting services and stranding hundreds of passengers in Canada and Europe.

Ernst & Young, SkyGreece’s court-appointed monitor, announced on Nov. 18 that the airline was bankrupt, filing a Certificate of Assignment with the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy.

Further details on the decision are forthcoming, said the monitor. A creditors’ meeting has been set for Dec. 8 in Toronto.

Hundreds of passengers were stranded after the airline suddenly announced what was to be a temporary halt to services in late August; at the time, SkyGreece said that it would resume services following a restructuring of the company.
