Following a March 29 crash landing by an Air Canada flight, the main runway at Halifax Stanfield International Airport has reopened with partial service.
The runway, which had been closed since the incident, reopened at 8 p.m. on April 9 ‘with some limitations’ following a cleaning, environmental assessment and testing of the runway surface and lighting systems. According to a statement by HIAA, NAVCANADA is working diligently to bring the damaged antenna array back into service as soon as possible. A timeframe for the main runway’s full availability is still uncertain.
Since March 29, the airport was operating solely on its secondary runway.
