Norwegian responds to Zika virus
Norwegian Cruise Line is advising passengers who are expectant mothers not to travel to regions affected by the Zika virus, the cruise line wrote in a statement released Feb 4.
NCL has made accommodations for their few affected guests who’ve had to reschedule their cruise for a future date in the next two years or change their itinerary to a non-affected destination.
For guests of NCL who opted to purchase a Travel Protection policy, cancellations are covered under the "Cancel for Any Reason" portion of the policy, the company stated.
The Zika virus, which is believed to cause birth defects and other neurological disorders, has reportedly reached pandemic levels in Central America, the Caribbean, and South America.
Canada’s major airlines have so far offered travellers discounts and travel credits amid growing fear of a Zika outbreak. Travel councils and organizations have also issued advisories that will help travel agents serve concerned clients.
The recommended method for avoiding the mosquito-borne virus is to follow CDC guidelines, which includes covering exposed skin by wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and hats and use an appropriate insect repellent containing DEET.
