No jets at BBTCA, says Transport minister

The plan to introduce jets to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport appears to once again be off the table, according to a statement made yesterday by recently-appointed federal Transport Minister Marc Garneau, just hours after he told reporters the proposal was still under consideration.

In an about-face move, the minister tweeted last night that “I confirm that GoC position is same as LPC commitment: we will not re-open tripartite agreement for YTZ.” According to a CBC report, Garneau took to Twitter just hours after telling reporters in Ottawa that he was “examining all the details” of the plan.

During the election campaign, the Liberal party stated that it would not re-visit the plan to bring jets to the downtown Toronto airport.

Porter Airlines, which wants to fly Bombardier CS-100 jets out of BBTCA, declined to comment on the minister’s statement.
