Metropolitan by COMO, Miami Beach open for business

The newly-opened Metropolitan by COMO, Miami Beach was the topic of discussion yesterday morning, at an event hosted by the property’s General Manager Javier Beneyto, who along with colleagues, shared why the brand’s newest addition is worth the travel to Miami.

“It will transport you guys from the cold,” said Sharon Lee Thony, public relations and marketing director (the Americas), noting Canada is an important market for COMO. In fact, Canadian guests account for about five per cent of COMO’s total hotel occupation. 

The new hotel occupies an authentic Art Deco pre-war building, which maintains some of its original features while offering modern comfort and luxury. The nine-floor property consists of 74 guestrooms with views of both the ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway.

This property is COMO’s fourth urban property, joining London’s Halkin by COMO Hotel and Metropolitan by COMO, London, as well as the Metropolitan by COMO, Bangkok. COMO offers urban hotels, island getaways, adventure retreats and wellness resorts.

Facilities for Metropolitan by COMO, Miami Beach include the Traymore Restaurant and Bar, COMO Shambhala Urban Escape, swimming pool, rooftop hydrotherapy pool, steam room, gym, hotel dock with access to Miami Bay, beach services and COMO Shambhala Urban Escape Outdoor Terrace.

As for activities and excursions in the area, options range from boat trips on the Intracoastal Waterway to culinary tours, museum tours to cultural excursions, plus more adventurous opportunities such as kite surfing, paddle boarding and cycling.

Like all COMO properties, the brand’s core pillars of wellness, cuisine, culture/adventure, service and design remain paramount to operations. For example, guests can meet with a wellness expert onsite to define their current habits and goals for transformation. The wellness expert then creates a tailored menu and wellness plan for each individual.

“We want to create life-changing experiences that guests can take home and integrate into their own lives,” said Lee Thony. 

Every COMO property features yoga and meditation facilities, as well as world-class chefs who focus on creating dishes that are both healthy and delicious. Beneyto said that when training his staff, fostering an atmosphere where guests feel they are at a home away from home was a top priority for him.  

“I would say in a day I personally welcome at check-in or check-out 70 per cent of my guests,” the GM said.

Personal butlers assigned to guests also go above and beyond to make sure guests at COMO have an experience that they will talk about upon arrival back home.

Lee Thony mentioned one guest who was on a weight loss program of wellness. In a moment of weakness, she ordered a burger from room service. Her butler, knowing her goals, brought her a salad. This guest now books only when this particular butler is available.

“Lots of our guests book around a particular butler’s availability rather than another priority for their stay,” Beneyto said.

As for getting to Metropolitan by COMO, Miami Beach, De’Anne Nunziato, account director - the Americas, pointed out that many airlines offer direct flights for Canadians. Driving is also an option for those seeking to flee the snow by a scenic drive.
