Lufthansa unveils special livery for 100th anniversary
(Lufthansa)

Lufthansa Airlines will mark its 100th anniversary in 2026 with a special aircraft livery.

Beginning in December, a new Boeing 787-9 will enter service carrying an updated take on the airline’s long-standing symbol: the crane.

The aircraft features a blue fuselage with a white crane whose wings blend into the wings of the plane, creating what Lufthansa calls a design that merges tradition with a forward look.

The crane, originally created in 1918 by graphic designer and architect Otto Firle, has served as Lufthansa’s key brand mark for decades.

Additional anniversary details include the numerals “100” on the left side of the fuselage, the lettering “1926/2026” on the right, and a “100” logo painted on the underside of the aircraft.

“Our Lufthansa crane stands for safety, pioneering spirit, premium quality, but also for freedom and reliability,” said Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines.

“This has been the case for the past 100 years and will continue to be so in the future. We are proud of our tradition and our values, and we look forward to continuing our great history. The special livery of the Boeing 787 honors our identity and also stands for a proud team of Lufthansa employees who give everything every day for the safety and well-being of our guests.”

The 787-9, registered D-ABPU, received its livery in Charleston, USA.

Lufthansa is expected to take delivery of the aircraft with its new Allegris cabin in Frankfurt in November before it begins scheduled service in December as part of the airline’s anniversary celebrations.
