KLM marks first year at YEG

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines marked the first anniversary of its Edmonton-Amsterdam route inaugurated on May 19, 2015, inviting clients, travel agents, partners and officials to an evening reception.

The display of Jasper National Park’s name on the fuselage of its 11th Boeing 777-300 (as the airline traditionally christens this fleet type with famous world heritage sites and nature reserves) was warmly welcomed by Edmonton Airport’s CEO Tom Ruth, as a compliment and a commitment to the capital of Alberta, northern Albertans and western Canadians.

“For this first year, 76,000 passengers were carried on the 346 flights between Edmonton and Amsterdam and then beyond to many of the 115 destinations we serve in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia,” said Pieter Groeneveld, vice-president - network planning for KLM.

The airline also auctioned off two World Business Class tickets to travel from Edmonton to Amsterdam to help raise funds for relief efforts in Fort McMurray.

Throughout its first year in Northern Alberta, KLM has partnered with or sponsored numerous community events including Tour of Alberta Marmot Basin Hill Challenge, the Mayor's State-of-the-City Address Luncheon, LNEDA cocktail for Leduc Nisku and the Vincent Van Gogh exhibit at Edmonton’s Southgate Centre. 

The airline’s offer from Edmonton to the Netherlands is currently at four weekly flights. Flights are operated by an Airbus A330-200 equipped with 243 seats: 30 in World Business Class, and 213 in Economy of which 35 are available in Economy Comfort which provides extra space.

From Canada this summer, KLM offers 37 weekly flights to Amsterdam: Edmonton (4), Montreal (7), Toronto (12), Calgary (7) and Vancouver (7).
