JFK's "pet project" set to open in 2016

Pets and livestock travelling to New York’s JFK International Airport will soon find themselves in the lap of luxury, following construction of a $32 million terminal specifically for animals.

In a report by the New York Post, officials with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey recently discussed additional plans for the 178,000 sq. ft. facility currently under construction, originally announced in 2012 and scheduled to open next year. Dubbed the ARK, among the features to be included are a 20,000 sq. ft. play area for dogs (complete with pools and massage areas), a climbing jungle for cats, specialized stalls for horses and other animals and a $100 per night pet hotel.

According to the Port Authority, the facility is expected to handle more than 70,000 animals per year.
